School-Based Support Groups

Healing House partners with participating Acadiana schools to provide safe, supportive spaces for students who have experienced the death of someone important in their lives.

These peer support groups help students feel less alone and give them tools to cope with grief in healthy ways.

Groups meet once a week for six weeks during the school day and are led by a trained Healing House facilitator in collaboration with the school counselor or social worker. Through creative activities, discussion, and connection, students learn to express their emotions, share memories, and build coping skills.

This program is offered at no cost to schools and includes all necessary materials. In addition, Healing House provides professional development for school staff and grief response support in the event of a school tragedy.

School Counselor Testimonials

★★★★★

The HH in-school groups are wonderful! They provide consistent support for our students who are grieving and assist the School Counselors by providing additional services to our large caseloads.
I’ve had a great experience these past few years working with Healing House. The students really value the opportunity to be with others who have gone through similar experiences themselves.
Wonderful! Beneficial to the students experiencing grief and loss, beneficial to myself as the assigned counselor, and so greatly needed! I witnessed growth and healing during the group process at my schools.
