Our Story

Our Mission

Healing House provides support and education for grieving children, their caregivers and the Acadiana community.

We believe with all our hearts that no child should ever have to grieve alone. That’s why we’ve created a safe place where grieving children find the support, comfort and understanding to help them along their grief journey.

Healing House is a non-profit agency helping children ages 4 – 17 who are anticipating or have experienced the death of a family member or other important person in their lives. We provide a welcoming and comfortable group atmosphere where children can express their thoughts and feelings – and they can do so in the company of other children who are going through the same difficult experiences. We believe that sharing their stories, feelings and memories can be a powerful way to help grieving children heal.

Our Vision

No child should grieve alone.

We offer support groups and programs facilitated by mental health professionals and caring volunteers who are passionate about helping. Our support groups allow children and teens to express their grief through interactive play, artwork and discussion groups with their peers. All of this takes place either in the warm, safe and friendly atmosphere of our home, Randon’s Place at Healing House or during the school day in participating Lafayette, Iberia, and St. Martin Parish schools.

Healing House is focused primarily on children, but we also have programs for young adults, caregivers and parents of grieving children. They will find a relaxing and friendly environment where they can share their feelings with others, spend quiet time in our Meditation Garden or read in our Resource Library.

All services at Healing House are provided free of charge under the direction of a mental health professional and facilitated by trained volunteers.

Randon's Place
at Healing House

Our new facility’s namesake, Randon Costello, was a wonderful daughter, wife and mother of Catherine, Ella and Jack. She had a contagious smile and warmth that drew you close to her. Randon was blessed with grace and wisdom, love and compassion, kindness and hope. Randon’s Place at Healing House is a tribute by her family to her faith in God, her sweet character, her love for others, humble manner, uncanny wisdom and enduring hope and perseverance. Randon was and is an undying gift to those who had the good fortune of knowing her. She will live on through her children, and the attributes she shared with others will continue through Randon’s Place at Healing House, opening a pathway to a brighter and more compassionate future.
