November is designated as National Children’s Grief Awareness Month, and the Thursday before Thanksgiving is National Children’s Grief Awareness Day, celebrated on November 20, 2025. This month-long initiative is a time to recognize the unique challenges faced by grieving children and to raise awareness of their needs. We encourage you to show your support throughout November, fostering a community where grieving children feel seen, supported, and understood.
The holiday season can be especially difficult for children who are grieving, making this a valuable time to offer support. Children’s Grief Awareness Day is a time to recognize the impact of care and understanding on a grieving child’s life. With 1 in 8 children in Louisiana experiencing the death of a parent or sibling before age 18, Children’s Grief Awareness Day seeks to provide an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of the painful impact that the death of a loved one has in the life of a child.
