Volunteer

Volunteers are a vital part of the care and support we provide for grieving children and their families at Healing House.

They are special, selfless people who willingly give their time and talents to provide support and compassion to children who are experiencing the most difficult period in their lives.

Volunteering at Healing House consists of:

  • Trained Grief Support Group Facilitators
  • General Help and Support

The groups at Healing House are conducted by volunteer facilitators who are trained to observe, listen and respond to children who are grieving. A facilitator is not a counselor, but serves as a caring companion in our support groups.

Facilitators must be at least 20 years of age and be willing to commit to two afternoons or evenings a month for one year. Volunteer training is offered three times a year, usually during the Spring, Summer and Fall, and is conducted over a two- or three-day period.

Upcoming Training Sessions

You must attend all days in the session

Volunteer Testimonials

★★★★★

I began volunteering, thinking I was helping kids in need of support. Turns out, we all help each other. I leave every time in better spirits than when I arrived because of their energy, their laughter, and their innocence. So thankful they give me a moment of their lives.
Healing House gives young grievers comfort and peace in knowing they are not alone. Volunteering at Healing House allowed me the chance to begin my own healing journey, all while serving as a safe space for others. This organization and their mission is vital to the Acadiana community, and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of it.

Volunteering at Healing House is such a life changing experience because while focusing on supporting the children and families, I’ve gained new perspectives of grief, love, and community. I’m forever grateful for the families that allow me to be a part of their grief journey, and the family oriented atmosphere Healing House brings. 💙

I decided to volunteer because I wanted to help kids journey through their grief process. What I did not expect was that I received so much more than I ever gave. To walk this path with the kids and later their caregivers was such a blessing to me. Healing House will always hold a very special place in my heart.
